Context
The Drug Foundation needed a website that could better support its growing role, evolving content, and the people who rely on it.

The existing website had become difficult to maintain. It was built on unsupported software, which made updates harder over time and limited the Drug Foundation’s ability to improve the site.

At the same time, the organisation had grown. The topics it covered, the audiences it served, and the way it communicated had all evolved. The structure of the site no longer reflected this, making it harder for people to find relevant information.

The website also held a large amount of important content. Preserving this while improving how it was organised and presented was a key part of the work.

Alongside this, the Drug Foundation was undergoing a rebrand. The new site needed to reflect this shift, both visually and in how it communicated, while continuing to serve a wide range of users.

Approach
We worked with the Drug Foundation to understand how people use the site and shape a structure that better supports their needs.

We started with a structured discovery phase to understand how the existing site was being used and where it was falling short. This included reviewing analytics, carrying out expert evaluations, and running workshops with the Drug Foundation team.

We worked closely with the Drug Foundation to understand the needs of their audiences, drawing on their experience across harm reduction, policy, and frontline services.

From there, we focused on improving how content was structured and accessed. This included simplifying navigation, clarifying user journeys, and making it easier for people to find what they needed.

We also planned and delivered a programmatic content migration, ensuring that existing information was preserved while being reorganised into a clearer, more usable structure.

The result was a platform that aligns with the Drug Foundation’s direction and can continue to evolve over time.

Impact
The new website provides a clearer, more accessible way for people to engage with information and supports the Foundation’s work more effectively.

The redesigned site makes it easier for people to find and understand information, with clearer navigation and more structured content. This supports a wide range of users, from individuals seeking harm reduction advice to professionals working in the sector.

Internally, the Drug Foundation now has a more flexible and maintainable platform. Content can be updated more easily, and the structure supports ongoing improvement rather than becoming difficult to manage over time.

The integration of tools such as data visualisation and resource ordering improves how information is shared and accessed.

A large volume of content was successfully migrated, preserving a valuable body of knowledge while making it more usable.

Overall, the website now better reflects the Drug Foundation’s role and provides a stronger, more reliable platform for its work.
