Context
Tūturu supports young people to make informed decisions about alcohol, other drugs, and gambling, but needed a platform that could bring schools and services together in practice.

Tūturu is focused on helping young people navigate decisions about alcohol, other drugs, and gambling, and supporting their overall wellbeing. Schools play a key role in this, but there is variation in how well they are supported across Aotearoa.

The programme brings together schools, health services, and whānau to create a more connected approach. The challenge was to support this in a way that works in practice, not just in theory.

The platform needed to support different groups, each with their own needs, while staying clear and accessible. It also needed to support ongoing engagement, track progress, and provide insight into how the programme is being used.

At its core, the platform needed to reflect the real-world environments schools operate in and support the people working within them.

Approach
We worked with the Tūturu team to understand how the programme operates and shape a platform that supports it in practice.

We began with a structured discovery phase, working through workshops with the Tūturu team to understand key audiences, goals, and how the platform would be used day to day.

These sessions focused on mapping user journeys, identifying essential features, and setting priorities. This helped build a shared understanding of what the platform needed to support and how different groups would interact with it.

From there, we defined high-level requirements and a phased delivery approach. This ensured the platform could be built in a way that was achievable while allowing it to evolve over time.

A key focus was ensuring the platform could capture and surface meaningful data, giving the Tūturu team visibility into how the programme is being used and where it is having impact.

Impact
The platform provides a clearer and more connected way to support young people’s wellbeing across schools, services, and communities.

The platform now acts as a central place for schools, health providers, and whānau to engage with Tūturu and the support it offers.

Dedicated areas for different audiences make it easier for people to find what is relevant to them, while maintaining a consistent overall experience.

Dashboards allow schools and providers to track progress, record activity, and manage next steps, supporting a more coordinated approach.

Reporting and analytics provide insight into how resources are used and how the programme is performing, helping inform ongoing improvements.

Overall, the platform provides a stronger foundation for supporting young people, while allowing the programme to grow and evolve over time.
